Privacy Policy
Last updated August 3, 2026
This page is maintained by Odhiambo Atieno to answer common privacy questions about Odhiambo Atieno. It describes current practice and is not an independent certification or audit.
1. Scope of this policy
This policy explains how Odhiambo Atieno ("we") handles personal data when you visit Odhiambo Atieno, read articles, watch videos, subscribe to the newsletter, or purchase a subscription. It is maintained by the site owner and describes current practice.
2. Data we collect
We aim to collect as little as possible. In practice that means:
- Information you give us: your email address when you subscribe to the newsletter, and any details you include when you contact us.
- Purchase information: if you buy a subscription, our payment provider processes your payment details. We receive a record of the transaction, not your full card number.
- Technical information: standard server and analytics data such as pages requested, referring page, approximate region, browser and device type.
- Preferences stored in your browser, such as your light or dark theme choice.
3. Why we use it
We use personal data to deliver the Site and its content, to send the newsletter you asked for, to process and support purchases, to understand which articles are useful in aggregate, and to keep the Site secure and functioning.
We do not sell personal data, and we do not use your email address for anything other than the communication you asked for.
4. Legal bases
Where data protection law such as the GDPR applies, we rely on: your consent for newsletter emails and any non-essential analytics; contract performance for subscriptions you buy; and legitimate interests for keeping the Site secure and understanding aggregate usage.
5. Cookies and analytics
Essential storage is used to remember preferences such as your theme and, where accounts exist, to keep you signed in. Any analytics we use is configured to report aggregate trends rather than to build advertising profiles. Embedded video players may set their own cookies when you press play — nothing loads from them until you do.
6. Service providers
We rely on a small number of third parties to run the Site — for example hosting and content delivery, email delivery for the newsletter, payment processing, and video hosting. They process data on our instructions for the purposes described here, and we ask them to keep it secure. Some may process data outside your country, in which case appropriate safeguards apply.
7. How long we keep data
Newsletter subscriptions are kept until you unsubscribe, after which your address is removed from the sending list. Purchase records are kept as long as tax and accounting rules require. Technical logs are kept for a short period for security and debugging, then deleted or aggregated.
8. Security
The Site is served over HTTPS, access to any administrative systems is limited to the site owner, and payment details are handled by the payment provider rather than stored by us. No system is perfectly secure, so we do not claim certification or guarantee against every possible incident; if a breach affects you and the law requires notification, we will notify you.
9. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access the personal data we hold about you, correct it, delete it, object to certain processing, withdraw consent, or receive a copy in a portable format.
- To exercise any right, email [email protected] from the address concerned.
- Every newsletter email includes a one-click unsubscribe link.
- You may also complain to your local data protection authority.
10. Children
The Site is intended for professional and adult learners and is not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect data from children; if you believe we have, contact us and we will delete it.
11. Changes to this policy
When this policy changes materially, we update the date at the top of the page and, where the change affects how we use data you have already given us, we will make a reasonable effort to tell you directly.
12. Contact
For any privacy question or request, write to [email protected]. Requests are handled by the site owner and answered as quickly as reasonably possible.
